The Colon Free Zone started operations in 1948. It is an important supplier of goods to other free zones such as San Andres in Colombia and Isla Margarita in Venezuela, started operations in 1948. This 400-hectares complex, divided into an Exhibition Trade Area in Colon and the Warehouse Area in France Field, houses as many as 2,435 companies. It is cheaper to travel by bus. The express buses leave from the Albrook Terminal every 30 minutes. If via the Railway, it leaves the Corozal Terminal at 7:15 a.m. and arrives in Colon in one hour. Transportation will also be available for the cruise passengers of the Caribbean area arriving via the Colon 2000 Terminal or the Port of Cristobal, for their transfer to the commercial area and to visit the tourist sites of interest of the Colon area.
