The wealthy emirate of Abu Dhabi, currently experiencing a real estate boom that some analysts expect to overtake that of its neighbour Dubai before the end of the decade, will soon boast another luxurious landmark: the £80-million Bridgeway at Zayed Sports City complex, to be built alongside the eponymous stadium complex in the heart of the UAE’s capital.
The Al Farida Investment Company and Abu Dhabi Tourist Authority (ADTA) launched the project this week in “another example of private sector support for Abu Dhabi’s tourism ambitions and for providing the necessary infrastructure to progress them”, according to Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, the chairman of both organisations. The project, due for completion in the last quarter of 2009, will include a 306-unit, 11-storey, five-star hotel; 146 serviced apartments; 146 residential units; a conference centre; a 6,000-square-metre shopping centre; a health club and spa; and 600 underground parking spaces, according to an ADTA statement. “Abu Dhabi’s hospitality segment… is now recording some of the world’s highest occupancy levels. This development will assist us in attaining our goal of adding another 4,000 rooms to the capital’s hospitality stock in the next three years,” said Al Nahyan. |
